With the help of good friends, Danielle started 8th + Pine in September 2015 to bring together a place for community, process + craft. She is a craftsperson attracted to working with natural fibers such as wools + woods. She likes the process of constructing materials to bring them into a new form. She is a weaver, a woodworker, an educator and have a love of photography. Her greatest intention for the studio is to see a wide range of mediums all in the same place, to be inspired by all.
Alicia grew up exploring the wilds of California, from her lush backyard to Big Sur and the Sierras. Higher education brought her to the East Coast and Paris, where she studied Art and Anthropology. While living in Brooklyn, her heart brought her back to California, where she is on a constant quest to make a life out of adventuring and working with her hands. Her art work investigates the natural world and how humans use it to make sense of intangible concepts such as time and memory. At 8th + Pine Alicia mostly works on messy projects such as carving wooden spoons using hand tools and green wood.
Originally from a small farming community of Colusa County, Sierra Reading is a Northern California native, artist/designer/educator who is now living and working throughout the Bay Area. With a focus in textile sustainability, Sierra received her BFA in textiles from the California College of the Arts and has sense shown her work at the Berkeley Art Museum, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the Northern California Fibershed, and many commissions for local designers throughout the Bay Area.
When she's not playing with colors and cloth, Sierra is the head fashion design instructor at the Youth Art Exchange- an art education non-profit based in the excelsior District of San Francisco that works to bring free art classes to public high school students in the are. She leads garment construction classes for students 14-17 years old every semester, and holds a fashion show for her students that documents the work they accomplished throughout the semester.
Sierra's work promotes sustainable garment and textile production, education concerning fashion sustainability, and making the connection between slow food and slow fashion.
By day, I am a shaman of hair, summoning the spirits of “The Bob", "The Lob", "The A-line", "The A-semetrical", "The-Fade", and a whole host of experimental and custom design cuts and colors. I’ve been practicing in the arts of vibrissal divination for over ten years in such places as New York, Denver, and San Francisco. By night, I fly on my broomstick to secret moonlit destinations of underground worlds where propriety and the rules of the universe are mocked and defied.
A New England native, Johanna Sprague is an Artist & Feng Shui Design Consultant living in Oakland, California. She studied art at RISD and The Museum School Boston then earned a BS in Design and International Trade and Marketing from The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. After 5 years in NYC she became increasingly engaged in environmental issues and found herself drawn to the rustic and natural landscapes throughout Europe and to the rugged coasts of Northern California and East Coast which ultimately became the catalysts for her line of sustainable design for the body and home.
The Nomad Collection is the amalgamation of inspiration and relics derived from her local and worldly travels and delivers one of a kind home decor, sculpture and jewelry. These works take shape as she converges refined and ordinary elements of the natural and industrial worlds, delivering an unexpected elegance with the abundance of resources that surround us daily. Her thought provoking work engages the viewer to consider a deeper relationship with nature, art, consumption, and the balance we all need to find within it.

California native, Teffeteller pulls from her experience of living all up and down the golden state. She arrived in the Bay Area in 2011, where she received a BA in Fine Arts with an emphasis in Painting and Sculpture from San Francisco State University.
To pose the question of how perception forms realities, she explores geometry, color, abstraction and space. Mixing colors that provoke strong physical responses of tranquility and stillness, Teffeteller confronts how perception of color and formal design shape our emotional states. Her work creates a grounding presence, allowing the viewer to become more self-aware in the mental and physical spaces they occupy.
Julia Guzmán is an abstract mixed-media sculpture and installation artist based in Oakland, CA.
Guided through the aesthetics of geometry and tensegrity, Julia’s works are conceptually and formally related through balance and precariousness.
Using a combination of materials such as metal, wood, wax and thread, compositions are constructed to settle between the material’s logic and hers.
Julia was born and raised in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She earned an A.A.S in Fine Arts from Altos de Chavón School of Design and earned her B.F.A in sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute.
Claire is a Los Angeles native now residing in Oakland, CA. Both cities play an integral role in her art practice, which investigates the division of urban blight, nostalgia, and yearning found in urban landscapes. By painting and drawing people or places that hold personal and often universal references to sentimental memories, she attempts to uncover and unravel these remembrances. Claire received her BA in art practice from University of California, Berkeley and has since shown her work at Salt Fine Art Gallery, The University Club of San Francisco, and the NIAD Art Center. She spends her 9 to 5’s as a publishing assistant at Illustoria Magazine, and studio assistant at People I’ve Loved.
Karin Dahl was born in Ekenäs, Finland, raised in Seattle, and is a decade-long resident of Oakland. She has a B.A. in Anthropology and is an aspiring archaeologist. She has made textiles for film, poetry, and performance art, including tents, masks, and embroidered writing, that weave in and out of the comfortable range of practical textile usage. She has worked at an archaeology museum and ceramics studio, and taught ceramics, textiles, and other mediums to both kids and adults. Karin is working toward a practice as artist, researcher, and educator that is outside any one discipline.
Right now Karin is working on a series of textiles inspired by mapping and topography exploring a range of fabric manipulations. She is also organizing a collaborative "walking tour" project to be presented at EM Wolfmans in July.
Originally from Central Pennsylvania, Jane has been navigating a love of art, agriculture, travel, and storytelling for many years. The current focus of her artwork is linocut printed onto paper and textile, although past and in-progress work includes photography, graphic design, oil painting, and wood sculpture.
Decorative patterns in the work generate a meditative effect for the maker and the observer. The designs are drawn, carved, and printed by hand. Beauty exists as much in process as it does in the final state.
When not in the studio, Jane does marketing and design work for seemakrish, a San Francisco-based line of luxury artisanal textiles for interiors.
Kari Workman is an underemployed screen printer and artist who has recently relocated to the Bay Area. In 2012, she graduated from the University of Montana, Missoula with a BFA in Printmaking and a minor in History. Presently, she wishes to support herself doing what she loves and hopes that one day she will be able to fund a personal studio or shop of her own to print posters, record sleeves, apparel, and fine art. As part of Workmanship Co. Kari plans to work with her brother to help people with creativity and productivity.
This collection began in the jungle of Peru at the start of 2015. As an artist in residency, I awoke each day to the magic of the jungle, raw and full of life. Inspired by memories of many previous journeys and the unfolding of my current adventure filled with vivid dreams of snakes and white lions, views of beautiful surroundings and the smells, sounds and tastes of an indigenous culture which has remained so connected, I began creating each day in the studio.
Crafted by hand to adorn the body, these talismans are reflections of the many guides I have encountered on my path, in the form of animal spirits and symbols reminiscent of ancient cultures.

Abigail McNamara (b. Missoula, Montana) is a sculptor, drawer, and installation artist. Abigail's work is inspired by palpable materials, the histories within them, and the embodied rituals of art and craft processes. Abigail received a B.A. in Studio Art from Lewis & Clark College (Portland, Oregon) in 2012. Abigail recently received a Career Opportunity Grant from the Oregon Arts Commission for her exhibition at Duplex Collective. Abigail has been selected as an artist-in-residence by The Residency in the Garden, Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts, and Grin City Collective.
Ariella makes body care products using mainly local and always ethically sourced ingredients and packaging. All are chemical free + made in the spirit of self care, self love + appreciation and respect of the earth. As I am a maker of external care products, I believe in having the same quality of standards for what we put on our bodies as we de for what we put in it. All of my products are handcrafted in small batches.
Inspired by my surroundings, I am also a painter, working mainly with acrylic paint to create landscapes that capture the vibrancy that exists in the natural environment. I emphasize light, color, texture and small details to highlight all the intricacies of life, while focusing on natural subjects that are both minimal yet complex. I paint on used canvas, wood and other found materials.
